Job Description

The FPGA Systems Engineer will support Distant Focus camera development projects as a technical resource and will manage the creation and integration of electronic system architecture. Demonstrated experience managing projects and technical personnel is a plus.

Work is performed in a small team environment with diverse projects ranging from concept designs to product transition. The position requires broad experience in FPGA, camera, computer, and embedded systems engineering with a focus on solutions for multi-image sensor optical systems. The candidate must be self-driven, comfortable executing on decisions in his/her area of expertise and also have strong follow-through on assignments for fast-moving high tech projects. Ideal candidate would be one who thrives on solving new or unfamiliar problems, welcomes responsibility for a variety of activities, is able to make decisions in ambiguous situations, and can troubleshoot problems independently.

Responsibilities

• Develop system architectures and block diagrams for new projects
• Develop and simulate HDL code for a variety of FPGA platforms
• Develop C/C++ code for a variety of embedded platforms including soft cores instantiated on the FPGA (NIOS, MicroBlaze, etc.)
• Develop software interfaces to allow communication and control of FPGA platform by external devices
• Integrate existing FPGA cores or 3rd party FPGA cores into new projects
• Instantiate image processing algorithms onto FPGA platforms
• Troubleshoot both the HDL code and hardware platform on which it is running

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent discipline is required.
• Experience: This senior engineering position requires at least 7 years experience.
• Technical: Extensive experience required in: Quartus, VHDL, Verilog, object oriented C/C++, high speed data routing interfaces, and test and measurement hardware.
• Skills: Strong understanding of engineering concepts and an analytical approach are important. Ability to find creative solutions to problems is valued highly. Good communication and people skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to work independently and manage projects and resources is required.
